Uttar Pradesh police have cracked the case of Dalit woman's rape and murder in Uttar Pradesh which had stirred a political storm before the key Milkipur bypoll slated to be held on February 5.

The CBI also made a mention of the explosive claim in the remand letter for former principal of R G Kar Medical College & Hospital Sandip Ghosh, and the erstwhile officer in-charge Tala police station Abhijit Mondal. Both were presented at the special court on Wednesday.
The former principal is also accused of alleged financial irregularities in the same institute.
The accused had not only slit the throat of the innocent victim but also mutilated her face beyond recognition ostensibly to conceal her identity. Confessing the crime, he said he eliminated her to keep his illicit relations with her mother a secret.
Police suspect that he ended his life by jumping on the tracks in front of an oncoming train.
