Amid large-scale presence of the police and Central forces, Muharram processions were taken out in Uttar Pradesh.
A joint flag march was conducted by the District Administration and Palamu Police in Medininagar on Saturday to ensure peaceful and incident-free observance of Muharram.
Security measures in Delhi were intensified on Friday in preparation for Muharram processions.
The police took action after the Bajrang Dal and other Hindu outfits lodged a complaint regarding one such incident in the Khandwa district of the state.
The district magistrate said that alternate routes for conducting Muharram processions have already been provided to perform the ceremonies peacefully.
As per these new guidelines, the state government stated that all prayers associated with Muharram shall be held at Masjids (mosques) strictly adhering to Covid rules.
The month of Muharram set to begin on Tuesday and no guidelines issued on holding majlis and taking out tazia processions by the state government.
Security forces were deployed in strength throughout Kashmir, particularly Srinagar, to thwart attempts to take out processions.
The petitioner has cited the court’s decision of allowing Puri Jagannath Rath Yatra festival.
