Fake currency racket busted in Kashmir, 3 arrested

Fake currency notes of around Rs 9 crore were seized at Dhamakhali ferry-ghat by police on Friday night. Two persons Debobrata Chakraborty and Sirajuddin Molla were arrested in connection with the incident.
The arrest led to the confiscation of a total of 33 fake currency notes from their possession, officials said.
The items, reportedly recovered mostly from Pakistan-backed narco-terrorism peddlers, were stored in the malkhana to produce as evidence before the court.
An MoU has been signed between India and Bangladesh to prevent and combat smuggling and circulation of counterfeit currency notes, while training programmes have been organised for state police officers as well as those of Nepal and Bangladesh to make them aware about the problem.
He said police had received information that the arrested accused and her son, identified as Gagandeep, were trying to bring fake currency notes from Punjab to supply in the town.
Fake currency notes of Rs 2000, Rs 500, and Rs 100 fake denominations were recovered from them. A computer, printer, crisp paper used for note-making besides chemicals was also retrieved from them, police said.
A case was originally registered on August 7, 2018, in Bengaluru relating to the seizure of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) having a face value of Rs 6.84 lakh
The accused Mohammad Shadab tried to buy chips at a casino worth Rs 55,000 with fake notes of Rs 500 denomination. He has been arrested.
Mohammed Shafikul, Shanu Sheikh, Mohammed Morjam Ali, Shaikh Azad and Mohammed Akhtar Ali have been absconding since then and the team had reached here to nab them.
