The Minister said a two-day workshop on Steel slag technology would be held next week in Jammu and Kashmir followed by other states and UTs as well, aimed at sensitising engineers and officials from road construction departments about its application and benefits.
The Minister said that the initiative, which began from Bhaderwah in district Doda of Jammu and Kashmir with lavender cultivation and aroma-based enterprises, has evolved into a national success story.
While government patronage is essential, active engagement from civil society is equally important, he said, citing the example of the Bangla language and its sustained richness.
"Weight reducing or anti-obesity drugs, currently available, ought to be used very judiciously," the Minister said while addressing the inaugural session of the 2-day "Asia Oceania Conference on Obesity" (AOCO).
Addressing a gathering of farmers, youth, and entrepreneurs during "Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan" in the border area of RS Pura Sector near here, he emphasized that this paradigm shift in the mindset and approach towards the aspirations of citizens in remote and border regions.
Singh further informed that one Armed Brigade had already been established at Sarthal, and now another similar Armed Brigade has been set up in Rampur township of Billawar.
Officers of the district administration, police and security agencies were present in the meeting.
The Union Minister said that Jammu & Kashmir is spearheading India's global initiative for climate study and research in the Himalayas.
