Other states that have reported significant case numbers include Maharashtra (209), Delhi (104), Gujarat (83), and Karnataka (47).
The total COVID-19 caseload of the country has risen to 4,50,26,261. These also include the JN.1 Covid variant cases.
According to the ministry, Karnataka reported 61 cases, followed by Maharashtra 35 and Kerala 25 cases.
The Covid caseload rose to 4,50,21,383 with the addition of the new cases of infections.
The President said that India was not only prepared to minimise the adverse impact of mobility-restrictions but also utilized the crisis as an opportunity to march ahead in various arenas.
Fauci's comments on Tuesday came after the US registered a record high 65,000 deaths in the past 28 days, making December the worst month for coronavirus fatalities since the start of the pandemic.
The statement comes after India reported its first six cases for the new strain of the virus.
In a statement, MHA said it has issued fresh guidelines for surveillance with regard to COVID-19 and these will remain in force till January 31.
The authorities told that their close contacts have also been put under quarantine. Comprehensive contact tracing has been initiated for co-travellers, family contacts and others.
