The Supreme Court on Friday issued a notice on a plea filed by Shiromani Akali Dal leader and former Punjab minister Bikram Singh Majithia, challenging the Punjab and Haryana High Court’s refusal to grant him regular bail in a corruption case alleging possession of disproportionate assets.
During the hearing of the bail plea, Padmakumar’s counsel argued that his custody was no longer required in the investigation and that the decision to allow moving the gold-plated sheets outside for maintenance was a collective decision taken by the board.
Jaiswal, who is on the run, had moved a petition for anticipatory bail.
In an affidavit, the police described the riots as a “deep-rooted, premeditated, and orchestrated conspiracy,” asserting that they were timed to coincide with the visit of the then US President Donald Trump to India.
Jain’s plea was for bail in an alleged money laundering case registered by the Directorate of Enforcement under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
The court rejected the bail plea of the SFI workers, observing that prima facie, the charges levelled against the accused held water.
The bench also listed the other petitions challenging the provisions of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) on January 10.
In the FiberNet case, the Andhra CID had earlier undertaken before the Supreme Court that it will not arrest Naidu.
The Bombay High Court had in January directed Professor Sen to approach the special NIA court for bail before coming to it.
