Soon after Manish Sisodia’s plea for the revival of his bail plea was called, Justice Sanjiv Khanna heading the bench said that his brother Judge Justice Sanjay Kumar will not like to hear the matter for personal reasons.
The plea is listed before a vacation bench of Justice Aravind Kumar and Justice Sandeep Mehta. Sisodia is facing prosecution by the CBI and the ED under the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Prevention of Money Laundering Act respectively in the Delhi excise policy scam.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has opposed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's plea against his arrest and subsequent remand, stating that it is based on material in possession of the agency.
Jain had sought extension of the bail in a money laundering case on medical grounds.
Issuing a notice on the bail plea by Sanjay Singh, a bench of Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Dipankar Datta sought a response from the Centre’s anti-money laundering agency.
Earlier on December 13, 2023, the Supreme Court had rejected the review petition of Manish Sisodia against a top court order October 30, 2023, order refusing him bail in the excise policy scam case.
Jain’s plea was for bail in an alleged money laundering case registered by the Directorate of Enforcement under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
The court rejected the bail plea of the SFI workers, observing that prima facie, the charges levelled against the accused held water.
The bench also listed the other petitions challenging the provisions of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) on January 10.
In the FiberNet case, the Andhra CID had earlier undertaken before the Supreme Court that it will not arrest Naidu.
