The polls were held after tension ran high at the campus over the last few weeks that witnessed widespread campaign by CPI(M)-backed Students' Federation of India (SFI) and RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
Describing the BJP-RSS combine as the biggest threat to the nation, Miss Ghosh urged the students to foil the attempt by the fascist forces to occupy space in the universities.
Later she participated in an anti-CAA and anti-NRC rally from College Square to Shyambazar which was attended by hundreds of students, cultural activists and senior CPI (M) leaders.
The students have been asking the administration to roll back the fee hike and as a sign of protest, have been boycotting the exams and the registration process.
The first students' strike took place in 1920 in King Edward Medical College, Lahore (now in Pakistan), against the academic discrimination between Indian and English pupils.
Meanwhile, Ghosh has proclaimed her innocence saying that the police have filed a 'selective FIR' and challenged them to provide proof for framing her.
The march came after the students gathered at Mandi House and then went to HRD Ministry office in protest against the January 5 attack on students inside the Periyar Hostel in the JNU campus.
