The Supreme Court will continue hearing a batch of petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025 on Thursday.
Maulana Khalid Rashid Firangi Mahali, a member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), announced on Thursday that if the Waqf Amendment Bill is passed in the Rajya Sabha, the board will move to court and challenge it.
Terming the bill “discriminatory and communally motivated,” the AIMPLB spokesperson highlighted that “the points made by Opposition members were also not taken into consideration by the JPC.”
The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) on Sunday declared a nationwide agitation against the proposed Waqf Amendment Bill.
AIMPLB Chairman Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani, opposing the UCC, said this proposal comes in conflicts with Shariat in many cases.
A Special CBI Court in 2020 acquitted the 32 accused in the Babri Masjid demolition case.
"There is a need for educating people about the aspects of Sharia related to Personal Law. The law journal to be published in English and Urdu will have information on the legal rights of minorities and the various court judgments on minority issues in a simplified manner," the board said.
However, the Sunni Central Waqf Board, one of the main litigants in the Ayodhya land dispute case has decided not to file a review petition.
Asked if the Muslim side should accept the 5-acre land, Mr Naqvi said he cannot comment on it as it was a court issue.
