Following a fair outing at the Indian Premier League with Rising Pune Supergiant, Australia skipper Steve Smith has set his sights on a record third title at the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy.

Smith, however, revealed that he and his boys underwent a few days of practice session to reset themselves for the 50-over format.

“It takes a little bit of time. You just have to realise 50 overs are a lot more than 20 and you can reign things back,” Smith said in a press conference.

Under the captaincy of Smith, Australia will face the Trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand in their first match of the Champions Trophy in Birmingham on Friday.

The 27-year-old batsman from Sydney said his teammates had to put more control in their batting while making a comeback at an ODI match.

“It has taken a few guys a little bit of time just to bring their games back down a level and not try and overhit the ball, particularly here in England where the outfield is so fast,” Smith added.

Australia outclassed West Indies and New Zealand in the respective final matches to win the Champions Trophy twice in a row (2006 and 2009).
