Sweden booked their place in the last 16 of the FIFA 2019 Women’s World Cup by whipping Thailand 5-1 in their Group F encounter in Nice.

It was a menacing presentation of good quality attacking football by the Swedes. What was even more baffling for Thailand was that they couldn’t win aerial passes against the taller Swedish side and this further dampened their spirits.

The winning team had five different goal scorers at the Allianz Riviera, with Linda Sembrant breaking the score line.

Their lead was multiplied by midfielder Kosovare Asllani who sensed an opportunity off a rebound and converted it into a goal. Fridolina Rolfo struck a superb third goal and totally destroyed Thailand’s chances of making a comeback in the game.

A fourth goal was netted by striker Lina Hurtig, who headed in her first goal of the game before Thailand scored their first goal of the competition.

Be that as it may, Sweden indented up their fifth goal of the game in stoppage time to finish the proceeding in style and mark a famous win.

In FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019, Sweden take on United States on 21 June, Friday (IST), while Thailand play Chile on the same day.
