This year, Delhi police have received more than 500 complaints through their helpline numbers from the North East people residing in Delhi.
According to the police data, police have received 634 complaints till 18 September and have registered cases in 219 complaints.
In the year 2014, from the helpline number 1093 and 100, police received 735 complaints whereas this year police received 634 complaints through helpline numbers. Police claimed that they have taken the following proactive initiatives for the safety and security of the North-Eastern people.
"Standing Order Number 383/2014 has been issued based on ‘Zero Tolerance Policy’ for tackling problems faced by students and other residents from North Eastern states in Delhi and for ensuring prompt action," police said adding that 44 representatives have also been appointed from the students and volunteers as Delhi Police representatives for North-Eastern States.
Delhi police further claimed that from 14 February 2014 to 18 September 2015, 1369 complaints were received in which 10 were of rape, 14 of molestation, 87 of eve-teasing.
"In the Facebook page, more than 5000 complaints and suggestions were received," police said.
Police further claimed that sensitization of policemen is being done regularly on issues related to safety and security of North-Eastern students and residents.
Special Cell for North-Eastern residents has started functioning at Nanakpura, Delhi and 27 police personnel belonging to North-Eastern States have been posted in the Cell.
