The BJP on Monday accused Congress president Rahul Gandhi of spreading a canard against Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the Rafale deal.

Addressing media persons at the party headquarters here, BJP leader and Union Minister Prakash Javadekar alleged that Rahul Gandhi and his Congress party were telling lies and people would give a befitting reply to them in the Lok Sabha elections.

Javadekar said Rahul and the Congress had been making statements against PM Modi and the BJP out of their desperation. He said Rahul Gandhi was making a wrongful presentation of the Supreme Court verdict on Rafale before the media and people.

The BJP leader said from the apex court’s remarks it had become clear that the Congress party was up to some mischief and deliberately trying to malign the Prime Minister and the country’s constitutional institutions.

From the court ruling it had become clear that on the basis of new evidence that had come to the public domain the apex court would hear the review petition. Rahul Gandhi tried to pass off his remarks as that of the Supreme Court over Rafale issue and created a wrong impression in the peoples’ minds, Javadekar charged.

Further targeting the Gandhi family, the HRD Minister in a jibe at Congress leader PC Chacko’s claim that Gandhi family was the first family of the country, said it is a family that had been telling lies about Modi. He alleged that the entire UPA reign was marked by rampant and all pervasive corruption.

Javadekar claimed that people had reposed full faith in Modi and there was unlikely to be any impact of the Congress’ alleged lies regarding Rafale on him. He said the Congress president owed an apology to the country for taking the political narrative to a nadir.
