Priyanka Chopra is seeking legal opinion on her contract with Nirav Modi, the jewellery designer who is in the centre of a massive fraud involving Punjab National Bank (PNB).

The Bollywood actress, who is a brand ambassador of the brand, intends to terminate her contract following the allegations against the globally popular Indian diamantaire.

“There are speculative reports that Priyanka Chopra has sued Nirav Modi. This is not true. However, she is currently seeking legal opinion with respect to terminating her contract with the brand in light of allegations of financial fraud against Nirav Modi,” her spokesperson said in a statement.

It was earlier reported that Chopra, who has now transitioned into a popular name in Hollywood, had sued Modi for non-payment of dues.

Modi is one of the accused in the Rs 11,515 crore fraud detected at one of the Mumbai branches of PNB.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday sealed the billionaire jewellery designer’s house while Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raids at multiple locations in connection with a Rs 280 crore money laundering case against him and others, following a complaint by Punjab National Bank (PNB).

He has also been accused by PNB of fraudulent transactions worth about over Rs 11K crore in addition to Rs 280 crore money laundering case.

The fraud was detected in the PNB’s Brady House Branch, in south Mumbai, which is its second-biggest lending branch in the country.

Addressing reporters on Thursday, PNB MD Sunil Mehta said that the fraud started in 2011 and was detected in the third week of January this year following which the bank complained to the CBI on 29 January.

“An FIR was registered on 30 January,” he said.
