Joining the rest of the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother Heeraben Modi on Tuesday visited the bank to exchange old currency notes.
Heeraben Modi went to Gandhi Nagar branch in Gujarat with nine currency notes of Rs.500, worth Rs.4,500.
The country has been facing shortage of valid currency notes after Prime Minister Modi on November 8 night announced demonetisation of Rs.500 and Rs.1,000 currency notes.
Meanwhile, the Union government and the RBI in separate statements have assured the nation of smooth currency operation soon.
“Enough cash is available in the system, no need for the public to panic, Department of Economic Affairs  (DEA) secretary Shaktikanta Das said on Monday, adding, the government is doing its best to improve the situation and the situation hour by hour”.
