Hours after President of India Ram Nath Kovind disqualified 20 Aam Aadmi Party MLAs, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday responded on Twitter saying, “whatever may be the circumstances, we must follow the path of truth”.

Kejriwal in his tweet said that in every step of the way, God is with AAP, if not then our existence as a party is questionable, while adding that we must not shun the path of truth. (Translated from Hindi)

President Ram Nath Kovind approved the disqualification of 20 Aam Aadmi Party MLAs for holding the ‘office of profit’.

The Election Commission had sent its recommendation to disqualify the MLAs to the President on 19 January. The ECI had said that the MLAs are appointed as parliamentary secretaries, which was “unconstitutional”.

Initially, the profit for office case was against 21 MLAs before Rajouri Garden MLA Jarnail Singh resigned from his post to contest elections against former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal in 2017 state election.

On September 8, 2016, the high court had set aside the appointment of the 21 AAP MLAs as parliamentary secretaries. The court had observed that the order to appoint them as parliamentary secretaries was given without the concurrence of the then Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung.
