I thank him for entrusting me with this responsibility and for giving me the opportunity to serve our party.”

Jyotiraditya Scindia said that he had resigned a few days back. “I haven’t resigned today. I had submitted my resignation to Congress President Rahul Gandhi 8-10 days ago,” he said, adding, “I am not a leader who gives orders to others. I think when there is a responsibility, there comes accountability as well. Even I am responsible if performance isn’t good and therefore, I took the decision to resign.”

Meanwhile, Milind Deora, along with his resignation, has also proposed a three-member panel to lead the Mumbai Congress for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections.

Milind Deora has hinted that he would be taking up further responsibilities at the national level to galvanise and strengthen Congress. According to sources, Deora had expressed his desire to quit shortly after meeting outgoing Congress President Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi on June 26.

“The same was conveyed to Mallikarjun Kharge and KC Venugopal, General Secretaries, All India Congress Committee,” a statement from Deora’s office said.

Milind Deora had contested the Lok Sabha poll from Mumbai-South constituency which he lost to Shiv Sena’s Arvind Sawant.

Deora reiterated that he was always available to serve the party as a trusted and resourceful lieutenant and looks forward to playing a more important role nationally.

He added that political realities have changed since 2019 results and all have to get ready for roles that these times demand.
