Bhopal, 15 November
Merely 10 days ahead of the Madhya Pradesh State Assembly polls, which appear keenly poised, a Congress leader released a CD of a sting operation alleging that Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s elder brother, Narendra Singh Chouhan was involved in taking bribe for getting mining lease allotted in Chhattarpur and Sagar districts of the state.
Former state Congress spokesperson K K Mishra released the CD at Indore on Thursday, video clips of which were also uploaded on YouTube.
"The footage proves that Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his family are behind the mining racket in the state," Mr K K Mishra claimed.
Describing the modus operandi of his sting operation, Mr Mishra said his team had first approached Ujjain’s Ajay Tiwari, a close aide of Narendra Singh, to help them secure a mining lease in Chhatarpur and Sagar.
"We had set up a dummy company ‘Shyam Industry’, which was supposed to be based in Kolkata. This company then signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the MP state government during the investors’ meet in Indore in 2007.
Later, one of our team members posing as the company’s CEO, S S Khare approached Mr Tiwari and asked for his help to get the mining lease for the firm.
Mr Tiwari assured us that the job would be done and fixed a meeting with Mr Narendra Singh at his house in Bhopal," Mr Mishra said.
Mr Mishra said that at Narendra Singh’s behest, Mr Tiwari accepted a bribe of Rs 20 lakh from Khare in a car on 30 August, 2008.
"Tiwari used to be a small time supplier of fabrics to the Tribal Welfare Department. He became a prosperous businessman after his association with the CM’s brother, who acted as his middleman in his deals," Mr Mishra said. "The operation was carried out between 2007 and 2009," he said and claimed to have spent a sum of Rs 1.75 crore on it though he did not reveal any details of who funded the operation.
"I will reveal all during investigation," Mr Mishra said. In 2012, IPS officer Narendra Kumar was deliberately run over by a tractor-trolley because he was against illegal mining mafia in Morena district.
