Bhopal, 21 July
A large number of Congress activists staged a demonstration at the Shahpura police station today afternoon, to protest yesterday’s registering of a case against Congress general secretary and former chief minister of MP Mr Digivijay Singh for his alleged “insensitive” tweet about children after the sodomy charges against former MP finance minister Raghavji came to light recently.
According to information, Mr Sangeet Verma, an RSS activist, had lodged a complaint against Mr Singh in this regard at the Shahpura police station on 19 July.
The complainant alleged that Mr Singh’s tweet “bachcha bachcha Ram ka, Raghavji ke kaam ka”, had hurt the sentiments of the majority community.
Police registered a case against Mr Singh under section 295 A of the IPC (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and various sections of the IT Act. The officials said sections are non-bailable.
Superintendent of Police Mr Anshuman Singh confirmed that a case has been registered against Mr Singh. He said statements would be recorded and the twitter account in question will be examined.
