The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday condemned the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh for proposing imposition of water cess on hydropower generation in the hill state.

Addressing a Press conference, party’s state chief spokesperson Malvinder Singh Kang said as the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) and Punjab State Power Corporation Limited’s hydro projects in the hill state and will also come under its purview, the proposed Bill for imposition of water cess on hydropower generation in Himachal Pradesh (HP)  will put additional financial burden on the Punjab, which is already struggling to bring the state’s economy back on track from the financial mess created by the previous governments.

The AAP asked the Punjab Congress leadership to pressurise its government in the neighbouring state to rollback this “anti-Punjab decision” at once.

Kang condemned this move of Congress government in the hill state and said the anti-Punjab stand of Punjab Congress leadership has once again been exposed with this decision.

Castigating the Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly, Partap Singh Bajwa, Congress legislators Sukhpal Khaira and other state leadership for their silence on this anti-Punjab issue of HP government, AAP spokesperson said that this attitude of Punjab leaders have once again made it clear that Congress always worked to weaken the interest of Punjab. Their sole agenda is to fill their own coffers and ignore welfare of the state and its people, he added.
