At least seven people died and several others were injured when they fell in a drain on Wednesday during a roadshow being held by TDP president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in Kandukur town of Nellore district.

The tragedy occurred when thousands of people turned up for the TDP’s outreach programme called ‘Idhemi Karma’ and fell in a drain while navigating a narrow lane. This led to a stampede-like situation.

Former Chief Minister Naidu announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh each to next of kin of those who died in the stampede. The injured were admitted to Kandukur General Hospital. He also visited the hospital to meet those injured.
