Woman found dead in Kangra forest

A body of a 55-year-old dalit woman was found in the forest area of Skaau village 7 kilometres away from Shahpur, in Kangra district.

The family of the deceased along with the villagers recovered her body at midnight. According to the Police officials, the deceased Sahni Devi was a native of Shahpur village.

She used to make brooms, for which she went to the forest for collecting date-palm leaves as usual. However, the woman did not return home till late night, so her family started searching for her.

The body was found near a canal in the forest at around 2:30 a.m. According to the police sources, it is suspected that the woman was killed using a stone, as there were injuries on her head and body.

Any possibility of rape will be cleared after the autopsy reports, said the sources. “After the body was recovered from the forest, the family informed the police.

We are investigating the matter. The body has been sent for autopsy,” said Station House Officer (SHO), Investigating Officer, Gambhir Singh.

“A case has been registered under IPC 302. The cause of her death will be cleared after the autopsy reports,” said Kangra Superintendent of Police, Santosh Patial.
