More than 650 hectares of Uttarakhand land in grip of forest fires
Though no loss of life has been reported so far, officials say with the rise in mercury level the blaze is going out of control.
Uttarakhand police has made elaborate security arrangements for cinema halls and muliplexes screening the controversial Hindi movie ‘Padmaavat’ in the hill state. They will be provided police security and people fuelling violence will not be spared and treated according to the law.
A meeting of police officers was held at the state police headquarters in Dehradun on Wednesday. Uttarakhand Police’s Additional Director General (law & order) Ashok Kumar said, “We will deal with violators strictly and offenders will be booked and sent to jail. We have passed special order to Garhwal and Kumoan region police officers about it and to maintain law and order.”
Many organisations, including Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, Uttarakhand Chetriya Kalyan Simiti and Maharana Pratap Vichar Manch, staged a protest against the release of ‘Padmavaat’ recently in Uttarakhand.

To the surprise of the protesters, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat supported the movie. In his recent interaction with media, Rawat said, “Commenting on the film without watching it is useless. Sanjay Leela Bhansali is a respected film-maker and I don’t think he will tamper with historical facts.”
Cinemagoers are anxiously waiting for the release of the talked about Bollywood film. Uttarakhand has witnessed stray protests against Padmaavat in the past few weeks.
