Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said there was a need to change the “content in education” so that students after completing studies don’t have to strive hard to get respectable jobs.

Interacting with the with IIT JEE qualifying students of Delhi government schools, Kejriwal said after bringing the education system of government schools at par with private schools, “there is need to add value and meaning to our education content”.

“Today, we get degrees but they are of no value when we venture out to get a job. Education doesn’t mean that you need to “rattaficate” (learn by rote) things. Education should bring value in one’s life,” he said.

Kejriwal said after Thomas Macaulay’s education system, which was “imposed” in India during the British rule, there has been “no change” in the education system in the country.

Quoting Mahatma Gandhi, Kejriwal said the purpose of the education was to make a person a good human being, a good citizen and after receiving degrees enable him to get a respectable job.

Praising the efforts made by his government in changing the education system in government schools, Kejriwal said the work carried out by the education minister along with his team was “revolutionary”.

Kejriwal said Delhi government was emphasising on improving and enhancing the education system of government schools.

“I am not saying that everything has changed. There are still so many things to do. But results are slowly showing with excellent performances,” he said.
Kejriwal also made a fervent appeal to the students and said that they should not abandon their parents after becoming successful in life.

“After your education, when you become successful, don’t forget your parents. Despite all odds, your parents have toiled very hard for your education,” he said.

Talking on the occasion, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that the direct feedback form the students have been a major factor for the changes that the government has brought in the education system in the government schools.
