Maoists kidnap villagers in Kalahandi

A group of four villagers including a grama rakhi was kidnapped by armed Maoists from Trilochanpur village under Bijepur police station jurisdiction in Kalahandi district.

Trilocanpur village is located in the foothills of Niyamgiri and the Maoists are active in this area.The Nagavali- Ghumsar division of the ultras is said to be behind the crime.

According to police sources the kidnapped villagers are Babula Naik, Raju Naik, Bisikesan Naik and Khetra Harijan who is the gram rakhi.

Binod Kumar Rao, the officer in charge of Bijepur police station, said that the gram rakhi had earlier been threatened by the Maoists.

Police said “combing operations have been launched to track the Maoists”. It is well known that Niyamgiri hill range which is spread across Kalahandi and Rayagada districts is often used by the Maoists
