Karti Chidambaram’s chartered accountant S Bhaskararaman, arrested on Friday, was produced before a Delhi court, which remanded him to the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED’s) custody for five days.

The ED, which arrested the CA from a five-star hotel in the city on Friday morning for his alleged role in the INX Media money laundering case, wanted Karti’s CA in its custody for 14 days for his interrogation.

The ED wanted to quiz him with regard to the various properties involved in money laundering and to identify movable and immovable properties as also to ascertain what role the accused and his associates played in the case.

Special judge Sunil Rana accepted the ED’s plea that the CA, who was not cooperating, needed to be quizzed in custody with regard to the money laundering case. But the court remanded him in five-day custody.

The ED said, “During the course of investigation, it was revealed that Bhaskararaman, who is a qualified Chartered Accountant, has been assisting the accused Karti Chidambaram to manage his huge ill-gotten wealth in India and abroad.” It claimed that various witnesses’ statements have been recorded in connection with the case.

Karti Chidambaram is the son of senior Congress leader and former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram during the previous UPA government.

Karti’s name came into the picture in connection with the case as the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) granted approval in 2007 for the receipt of funds by INX Media when his father was the Union Finance Minister.
