Rahul Basan, a tourist from Haryana, went missing from south Kashmir on Thursday, police said.

Basan, who is a resident of Kundli in Sonepat district on the Delhi-Haryana border, had gone missing from the Mattan temple in Anantnag district, they said.

According to reports, Basan came to the state with 14 others from Faridabad to visit Vaishno Devi shrine and some other places.

As per the statements of the members of the group given to the police, when the entire group was performing prayer inside the Mattan temple in south Kashmir, which is the second sun temple after Konark temple in Odisha, Basan stepped out of the temple and was nowhere to be found later.

Police have registered a complaint and were looking for him.

The news of tourist going missing sparked panic. A tourist hailing from Tamil Nadu had died in a stone pelting incident on May 7 on the outskirts of Srinagar and a woman was injured.

R Thirumani, a resident of Chennai, suffered head injuries after being hit by a stone during the rampage in the morning. The tourist was taken to the SKIMS hospital at Soura, where he succumbed to injuries.

Reacting on the brutal incident, the state Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had said that her head hangs in shame.
