Govt official alleges land compensation scam, suggests CBI probe

Alleging misappropriation of funds worth crores of rupees, Meerut Divisional Commissioner Prabhat Kumar has recommended a CBI probe into distribution of compensation against the land acquired for Meerut -Delhi Expressway, Eastern Peripheral Expressway and other projects of National Highway Authority of India.

Kumar has also recommended action against the than District Magistrates of Ghaziabad Vimal Kumar Sharma and Nidhi Keshwarani, besides a CBI probe into the scam. He has also suggested to lodge a case against 14 persons, including the than Addl District Magistrate (Land Acquisition) Ghanshyam Singh, Ameen Santosh Kumar and some brokers of Ghaziabad and Hapur districts.

There were complaints of misappropriation of funds in the distribution of compensation for land acquired for NHAI different projects. There are allegations that the brokers purchased the land in the two districts even after notifications of the NHAI as they were allegedly hand-in-glove with the officials.

There are allegations that from 2011-13, the then ADM Ghanshyam Singh and Ameen Santosh Kumar purchased the land in the name of their close relatives in villages like Rasoolpur Sikroad, Kushalia, Dasna Dehat, Nahal and Patna Muradnagar of  Ghaziabad and Hapur districts which came under NHAI projects.

The land was bought from the farmers at a very low price and same land was acquired by the NHAI 10 times the price.

Out of the total compensation of Rs. 1,248.16 crore, a sum of Rs. 554.34 crore has been distributed among 1,283 farmers.
