Govt delays NTPC’s new Rs 7,000 cr Talcher project

NTPC

While power major NTPC is ready to start its Rs 7,000 crore expansion project at Talcher Thermal power station as early as possible, the state government, for inexplicable reasons is holding up clearances, said reliable sources here.

NTPC wants to bring in two 660 MW units with super critical technology here before the current 460 MW old plant winds up in 2021 as per the norms. It has completed all necessary requisites for the initiation of the project but waits state government to give its nod.

Addressing the press conference here recently, the general manager of TTPS Mr M K Singh said as per the central government norm all plants of 50 year old will be phased out.

Accordingly, TTPS which is dedicated to Odisha will be phased out by the end 2021. “It is better that the new plant should come up in the place of old plant before the old plant winds up.

Keeping in mind all the tendering processes for the project are in advanced stage. We need the state clearance as soon as possible to carry forward the project” Singh said.

Singh said coal linkage for the project is almost finalized as MCL coal will be tied up and similarly the environmental clearance also will be obtained soon.

He said it will take a maximum of 48 months to commission the plant from the date of construction.

Elaborating the performances of the Talcher thermal power plant he said the plant topped the country in the last three years in terms of achieving 0plant load factor (PLF) and will occupy either number one or two in the current fiscal. “Till date the PLF has been over 93 per cent and the total power generation stands at 3725 million units, he said.”
