Congress veteran bats for Scindia as CM face in MP

Jyotiraditya Scindia should be named as the chief ministerial face of the Congress Party ahead of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls as it will be more effective in ousting the BJP from the state, according to senior Congress leader and member of election coordination committee (ECC), Satyavrat Chaturvedi.

Speaking to The Statesman during a visit here, the former Congress general secretary and spokesperson said Scindia was liked by the people of the state because he was young, energetic and a mass leader.

“Congress leaders and workers should fight hard for their existence because if the party does not come to power this time it will lose its relevance in the state. Inactivity in the state organisation, factionalism, neglect of party workers and lack of direct contact with the public are the main reasons behind the three consecutive defeats of the Congress in MP,” said Chaturvedi.

“Scindia has an absolutely clean image and is popular among the youth. He should be declared as the chief ministerial face. We all have to come on the same platform. I too have joined hands with Digvijay Singh in the coordination committee,” he said. Chaturvedi is known to be an arch rival of Digvijay Singh.

The Congress veteran said after Kamal Nath assumed charge as state Congress chief, discipline has increased in the party and workers are feeling enthused.

Scindia, Digvijay Singh and Kamal Nath are holding rallies in various regions of the state and telling people about the party’s contribution to the state as well as the country.

“The members of the ECC are touring the entire state. They will visit it in three phases. The first phase has been to persuade dissatisfied workers and spread the message of unity. The remaining two phases will be launched after tickets for the Assembly seats are announced,” Chaturvedi said.

Chaturvedi said protests against amendments in the SC/ST Atrocities Act was part of a script written by the BJP and RSS in a bid to harm the Congress.
