CM to move state HC for SIT probe into Kunduli rape case

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik reaffirmed that the state government will move the Orissa High Court for a court monitored probe by SIT to the Kunduli alleged gang rape incident.

Talking to reporters here on return from Delhi, Mr Patnaik asserted that the government wants justice to the done at the earliest ossible time and in the most transparent manner to the rather unfortunate matter.

It may be noted that a girl in Koraput had alleged gang rape by four armed uniformed men on 10 October. The medical reports did not find any sign of rape. The victim had alleged that she was offered 90,000 by the police to keep mum.

The opposition Congress and BJP created a uproar over the incident. The girl committed suicide on 22 January. The Chief Minister also scotched speculations over the BJD returning to the NDA fold following his meeting with PM Modi on Thursday.

I presented the PM with “ The Tall Man” , a book on Biju babu. The BJD will remain equi-distant from the Congress and the BJP, he said. Answering a question on his meeting veteran Congress leader Narasingha Mishra and the political talk that Mishra would join the BJD, the Chief Minister said, Mr Mishra had dropped in for five minutes to find out details of the Hockey India programme.
