Additional Superintendent of Police, South Dinajpur, Debasish Nandi on Thursady announced that the district police will be awarding four police personnel of the Hili police station including two civic volunteers for their bravery of saving a bunch of students from a dangerous fire. According to police sources, Sub-Inspector of Hili police station, Nirupam Das, Homeguard, Sudan Mandal, and Civic Volunteers, Antu Dey and Subhrajaty Kandu were deployed for Naka duty at the Trimahini bus stand on Wednesday night.

While doing their duty, they apparently saw huge flames in one of the rooms of the Trimohini High School. They rushed to the school and found a flaming gas cylinder. They somehow managed to take the cylinder away and received multiple injuries in the process. “A special camp was going on for the district level school sports event. A total of 23 participants were present in the temporary camp in the school.

Preparations were on for the lunch to be served to the students for the next and final day,” said school sources. “We don’t know what happened, we ran out of the camp after hearing a loud shout from the night guard and found the burning gas cylinder in the kitchen shed. We were left helpless and were unable to combat the situation.
