Bid to set up archive for conservation of ancient, contemporary Odia Christian lit

Efforts to set up an archive for conservation of ancient and contemporary Odia Christian literature was stressed at the 120th anniversary of Odia Christian periodical ‘Pravati Tara’ here. The magazine was launched in 1896 by a British missionary Dr. Wilkinson and despite difficulties and hurdles it has been continuing in circulation even on Sunday.

A special souvenir was brought out to mark the occasion at the Stewart School. Prof. Deepak Kumar Behera, VC of Sambalpur University, who attended the special function as the chief guest said all efforts should be made to provide special focus on children and youth and separate sections created for them in Christian literature.

Rt. Rev. Surendra Kumar Nanda, Bishop of the Diocese of Cuttack, Church of North India, presided over the program The programme was addressed by the guest of honour, Prof. Hirak Kumar Pramanik, Chief Editor of the special souvenir, Mr. Samuel Patro, former General Secretary of the Bible Society of India, Dr. Bidyut Kumar Pramanik, Secretary of Utkal Christian Literature Board, Rev. Sukanta Das, and Editor of ‘Pravati Tara’ Mr. Sudipta Rout. Mr. Sovan Panda offered prayer on the occasion while Ms. Manasi Mohanty conducted the proceedings.
