They contended that the natural habitat of trees and forests around this locality have given place to concrete structures giving monkeys little option but to venture into their homes or towns in search of food.

Jayashree Pradhan, a victim of such an attack last week , said ‘ I am afraid of sending my children to school”. Other women said ‘We worshipped Lord Hanuman today for the safe return of our children to their homes after attending classes. Neither administration nor the forest department heard their grievances to trap the monkeys as a result we surrendered near Lord Hanuman for the safety of their children and women’.

Sarpanch of Pankpal panchyat Minakhyi Das too said the same.

Forest range officer, Kujang Pratap Chandra Mohanty, however, said two teams have been formed to try and capture the monkeys from Pankpal areas and two monkeys have been caught. People are irritating the simians and hence they attack, we have appealed to villagers to cooperate and not to try and chase or irritate the animals.
