The P.G.D.A.V. College (Evening) of Delhi University (DU) will be the first college in DU to have a fully automatic Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Station soon.

The college said that under its mega and ambitious project, Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) will establish 20 fully automatic Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Stations at prominent places in the city. In pursuance of the same, one air quality monitoring station will be established in the P.G.D.A.V. College (Evening) premises.

"The college will be the first educational establishment of not only Delhi University but also of the city to have such a monitoring station," said the press release.

According to information, DPCC has procured ultra-advanced fully automatic ambient air quality monitoring instruments from Ecotech Australia to monitor the air quality of the city. The stations will provide real time air quality data, both for scientific analysis and public awareness.

Principal Dr. R.K. Gupta claimed that the college will now be the first educational institution of the University and the city to have an ultra-modern station costing Rs 2 crore approximately.

The station will monitor the air quality of Nehru Nagar and adjoining areas like Maharani Bagh, Ashram, Srinivaspuri, Lajpat Nagar and so on. Since the area is also known for its high traffic density and congestion, especially during peak hours, the station will certainly be helpful in assessing the air quality, said Dr. Gupta.

Also a LED-display board will be installed at the front fence of the college so that onlookers may notice the concentration of air pollutants.
