A Division Bench comprising acting Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal and Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj of Calcutta High Court today asked Advocate General Kisor Datta regarding the single-day capacity of the state to administer Covid19 vaccine.
The state will have to submit its reply at the next hearing. The court also asked about arrangements made to vaccinate the physically and mentally challenged persons as well as the children. The Union government was asked how many persons have been affected after administering the double dose.
A sum of Rs 30 lakhs is compensation for frontline workers, Datta submitted. The doctors, health workers and police are considered frontline workers, he said. Is the Covid-19 vaccine supplied on a day-to-day basis, the court asked.

The court was hearing a Public Interest Litigation about persons infected by the virus and the frontline workers fighting the pandemic who are not getting compensation announced by the government.
Additional solicitor general Y J Dastoor submitted that the vaccine is not really supplied on a day-to-day basis. Later he gave an affidavit about the quantum of vaccine received to date. Another affidavit was given by Datta stating how many persons have applied for compensation and those who have received it and persons yet to get it.
The vaccine supply is not in keeping with the population of the state, the advocate general said. What are the documents which are yet to be submitted is coming in the way of those not getting compensation? the court asked.
Some have not submitted reports while the others are yet to submit their documents authenticating them as frontline workers, the advocate general said. The matter will come up next for hearing on 25 November.
