Following the arrest, security teams carried out more searches in the region. Their efforts led to a significant recovery of weapons. They found one MQ-RA81 rifle, three magazines, 151 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, a rifle grenade and hand grenade.
In a joint statement issued the outfits denounced August 15 as a “so-called celebration of freedom” which, they said, holds no meaning for the people of WESEA.
According to a press release issued by the banned outfit, military action has killed several top ULFA(I) leaders, including Brigadier Ganesh Asom and Colonel Pradip Asom.
The senior ULFA(I) commander, apprehended by Tinsukia police earlier this week, was handed over to the NIA after preliminary questioning.
A list of the 'targeted' areas along with pictures, including one close to the Secretariat in state capital Dispur, was also released by ULFA-I.
The arrested employee, Dharma Dutta, works as an employee of the Nagaon Municipal Board and resides in Uriagaon Village.
The three accused were found in possession of a pistol and ammunition.
The Army commander speaking at Fort William during the investiture ceremony today said “Myanmar Army had conducted operations which led to several insurgents group to run to this Indian side and surrender. ULFA-I is not a potent group any more. Indian Army has withdrawn most troops from North East areas while more will be withdrawn if state government decides security situation is normalising.”
“Three more people have been arrested who were involved in the blasts in Guwahati, including former members of ULFA. Home Ministry is in continuous contact with us regarding the investigation,” said Police Commissioner Kumar.
Police Commissioner Deepak Kumar of Guwahati, on Thursday, informed that the police have cracked the case with the arrest of two ULFA operatives.
