Former Union Minister and Hamirpur MP Anurag Thakur on Sunday participated in the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Parivartan Yatra in West Bengal along with Union Minister Shantanu Thakur and other party leaders.
Tension flared at Thakurnagar’s Matua Bari today following controversial remarks by Union minister of state for shipping and BJP MP Shantanu Thakur, triggering protests by a section of the Matua community amid growing anxiety over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The All India Matua Mahasangha, led by Union minister and BJP MP Shantanu Thakur, on Saturday organised a training camp in Thakurnagar, North 24-Parganas, today to educate members on applying for citizenship under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and navigating the state’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
CAA was passed by the Parliament in 2019 but the government is yet to notify its rules.
Shantanu Thakur, Union minister of state for ministry of ports, shipping and waterways of India, accused the BSF of indiscrimination against BJP supporters regarding issuing pass in border areas to carry goods.
"Prime Minister Modi won't rest or leave office till he has finished what he started, which is to take India to new heights," said Thakur.
“Two senior leaders were expelled by the state party recently even after they gave 30 years to the party. Where will they go now? I’ll speak to central leaders regarding all these matters. I shall also speak to Union home minister regarding implementation of CAA,"
Indian waterway systems are expanding at such a fast pace that no other country can match our speed, speaking on the occasion, Thakur said.
