Uttar Pradesh has been witnessing continuous rainfall since Monday, disrupting life in several parts of the state. Due to the rains, there is a constant flood threat in several parts of the state, as several rivers are flowing near the danger level.
As part of its ambitious mission to revive extinct and vanishing rivers across Uttar Pradesh, the Yogi Adityanath government has initiated restoration work on the Budhi Rapti river in Shravasti district.
The government has opened integrated control rooms in the districts hit by flood-like situations and distributed relief materials among the affected people.
In the Malbazar block in Jalpaiguri, places like Bagrakote and a nearby village have been flooded by the Lis river, which experienced heavy rain in its catchment area last night.
Acreative and interesting aspect of water conservation work relates to the efforts to revive some small rivers which have become extinct in recent times due to various factors.
Khattar said plans should also be made on a large-scale so that maximum reuse of treated water can be done in sectors like irrigation, thermal power plants, industrial and horticulture.

Further, the introduction of non-native species - such as fish, invertebrates, and vegetation - can have almost immediate ecological effects and economic consequences, potentially compounded by river interlinking.
According to Amarinder Singh, the move would help the state enhance its Jal Shakti to encourage diversity in agriculture, promote quality urbanisation, set up colonies, and speed up industrialisation for better and quicker economic emancipation of the citizens.
