3 terrorists killed in Pulwama encounter, search operation underway

The encounter started after the terrorists opened heavy fire on the police and other security forces, injuring two soldiers as they saw the joint team of police and army approach their hideout.
According to reports, a joint operation was launched on Monday night at Gasoo, Pulwama by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the army on credible input.
Naikoo, who carried a reward of Rs 12 lakh on his head, took over as the commander of Hizbul Mujahideen after the outfit’s poster boy and commander Burhan Wani was killed in a gunfight with the security forces in Kokarnag area in Anantnag district on July 8, 2016.
Heavy firing exchanges have been going on in the area since Tuesday evening when a massive search operation was launched by the security forces.
The encounter broke out after the security forces surrounded Hajin Payeen area of Rajpora village for a cordon and search operation.
According to the Army spokesman, Colonel Rajesh Kalia, weapons and warlike stores have been recovered from the encounter spot at Guri-Kadal.

One among slain terrorists in the encounter is said to be deserted Armyman Zahoor Thoker, however official confirmation is awaited.
After receiving a tip-off about militants’ presence, the security forces began a search operation in Sirnoo village of South Kashmir.
