Rural road projects worth Rs 1,524 crore to connect 138 habitations have been approved by the Centre under the PMGSY-IV Batch II in the parliamentary constituency of Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh.

In a major effort to enhance rural infrastructure in the northeast, the Ministry of Rural Development on Thursday sanctioned 88 roads spanning 782.155 kilometers, along with 55 bridges, in Meghalaya under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY)-III.

The incident took place on the intervening night of March 19-20 near village Alparas and Gundul under Koyelibeda police station limits, Bastar Range IG, P Sundarraj said.
The objective of the PMGSY, launched as a 100 per cent centrally sponsored scheme in December 2000, was to provide all weather-road access to unconnected habitations having a population of 500 persons and above by utilising the cess levied by the Union government on the high-speed diesel.
A maximum of 42 roads will be built under the PM's flagship scheme in Deoria district, followed by Amroha with 35 new roads.
Sitharaman said the government had so far provided all weather connectivity to over 97 habitations in rural areas under PMGSY.
