This includes two underground mines (Hirakhand-Bundia and Orient Colliery Mine Nos. 1&2), and six opencast mines (Kulda, Ananta, Samleshwari, Bhubaneswari, Lajkura, Belpahar, and Gopalji-Kaniha Expansion project).
Coal production from captive and commercial mines in June 2025 stood at 15.57 million tonnes (MT), while dispatches reached 17.31 MT, according to data released by the Ministry of Coal.
The overall coal production in India during April reached 81.57 million tonnes (MT), marking an increase of 3.63 per cent over the 78.71 MT produced in the corresponding period of the previous year, the government said on Thursday.
The Ministry of Coal has signed two more coal mine development and production agreements with the successful bidders of two coal mines - Marwatola-II and Namchik West - under the 11th round of commercial auctions, according to an official statement issued on Tuesday.
Ministry of Coal had launched the 10th round of auctions on June 21, 2024, and offered 67 coal mines for commercial mining.
The production of Coal India Limited (CIL) rose to 290.39 MT during the period of April to August 2024 marking a growth of 3.17% as compared to 281.46 MT during the corresponding period of last period, the Ministry of Coal said.
At the meeting, the Ministry of Coal sought suggestions for shaping the future course of R&D in the coal sector.
The MDOs will be engaged under Coal India Limited (CIL) to significantly enhance coal production, reduce reliance on imported coal, and introduce cutting-edge technology into the mining sector.
The data further said that the production of Coal India Limited (CIL) rose to 55.04 MT in July, marking a growth of 2.54% compared to 53.67 MT in July 2023.
