Heatwave: Met upgrades warning from yellow to orange

This weekend, at many places of south Bengal, could be blistering. The weather office has issued a forecast of the mercury soaring up to seven degrees Celsius above normal, for three days during 19-21 April at many places over districts of south Bengal.

Man held in Bengal for beating up four children

According to the police, Rabiyal Khan, a local businessman, tied the children's legs and kicked and beat them with a thick bamboo stick. The children were forced to lie down on an open field. Khan later told the police that the children had stolen parts from his tractor.

Rains wreak havoc in Midnapore; claim seven lives, trigger flood

As water levels of most of the rivers rose due to heavy rainfall that pounded the twin districts for the last 36 hours, the state government has asked the district magistrates to evacuate people from low-lying areas. In West Midnapore’s Keshiari and Kharagpur, five people died as their homes collapsed on Tuesday night.

Major fire breaks out at Haldia Petrochemicals plant

Though the plant's internal firefighting system has been pressed into action and help has been sought from the other factories in the nearby locality, senior officials of the plant are of the opinion that the fire will not douse until the Naptha inside the pipeline is completely burned.
