A leopard entered a residential house in Nashik and attacked a pet cat, leaving it seriously injured. CCTV footage of the incident has triggered panic among locals, with forest officials launching a search operation.
Hearing commotion, although family members came out to the infant boy’s rescue and gave the leopard a hot chase, the animal managed to disappear into the darkness with the child, police said on Sunday.
The victim, Munna Lal, a resident of Lokai Purwa village under the Dhaurahra forest range, was attacked while collecting fodder for his cattle in a nearby sugarcane field, officials confirmed on Monday.
Panic prevailed among the denizens of Dhatwala, Jakhoda, and Khudania villages in Jhunjhunu district due to a prowling leopard that strayed into populated areas and injured four persons during its tranquillisation and rescue.
The big cat was later rescued by the Forest Department with the help of DFS, while the injured were rushed to the hospital.

The incident took place on Tuesday and the area falls under the Dhaurhara forest range under the Dudhwa buffer zone.
They have urged the district authorities to catch the feline posing a life threat and rehabilitate it.
Forest authorities have intensified their awareness programmes to minimize the man-animal conflict in the region which is in the vicinity of the Amangarh Tiger Reserve.
An official said the leopard safari was suspended on Thursday, but they, however, allowed those who had already bought their tickets online and in advance to enjoy the safari.
