A scuffle broke out outside the Thamarassery court in Kozhikode district on Saturday after a young woman was allowed by the court to leave with her boyfriend, leading to a clash between her relatives and the man’s friends.
Immediately after the fire was reported to have broken out at 6 pm, four units of the Fire and Rescue Services reached the spot and initiated efforts to douse the flames that spread from the second floor to the third floor of the building.
The court declined to accept the defence counsel’s argument that Shimjitha had no prior acquaintance with Deepak.
The deceased has been identified as Deepak (40), a native of Govindapuram, Kozhikode. Relatives of Deepak allege that the young woman had spread false propaganda on social media and that Deepak was under severe mental stress after the video went viral.
An expert team appointed by the Central government will monitor the situation arising from the outbreak in Kerala's Kozhikode.
Around 95 houses were partially damaged and another 100 got waterlogged due to sea erosion in Kozhikode.
The missing boys are Mohammed Adil (18) and Adil Hassan (16) from Olavanna at the beach in Kozhikode district of Kerala.
