In a significant stride towards fostering innovation and technological advancement, the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur) and the Indian Navy have inked a (MoU) at the naval headquarters, New Delhi.
The navy rescued 17 crew members of the vessel MV Ruen during an anti-piracy operation lasting nearly two days, with no casualties reported. Around 35 pirates surrendered and were taken into custody, the Indian Navy said.
Bulgaria's Deputy Prime Minister Mariya Gabriel had also expressed gratitude in a post on X to which External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar responded by saying, "That's what friends are for."
The Ministry of Defence said that the three pirates surrendered to the Seychelles Coast Guard (SCG) and all six crew members are safe and the vessel is being escorted to Mahe, Seychelles.
The Navy said that a team is currently out there to monitor the situation to rule out the possibility of re-ignition.
The vessel was hit by a drone attack at 2311 hours on Wednesday.
The unveiling ceremony was held at Adani Adani Aerospace Park in Hyderabad.
The jubilant members of the crew chanted "Bharat Mata ki Jai" and thanked the Indian Navy.
