After more than 12 hrs of intense coercive tactical measures as per the SOPs, the pirates on board the hijacked FV were forced to surrender. The crew, comprising 23 Pakistani nationals, have been safely rescued,'' the Indian Navy said in a statement.
At least 23 Pakistani nationals were rescued from the clutches of Somali pirates during a daring 12-hour-long operation in the Arabian Sea, said the Indian Navy.
The incident occurred 2,600 km from the Indian coast. It led to the arrest of 35 pirates and release of 17 hostages, including 7 Bulgarian nationals.
Admiral Kumar said the Navy will continue taking affirmative action to prevent such incidents, adding that 'Operation Sankalp', the naval operation to secure the crew of Bulgaria-flagged merchant vessel MV Ruen, has broken the myth of short and swift operations and stressed the need for sustained interventions to ensure the safety and stability of shipping assets in the oceans.
The vessel was hit by a drone attack at 2311 hours on Wednesday.
The unveiling ceremony was held at Adani Adani Aerospace Park in Hyderabad.
The jubilant members of the crew chanted "Bharat Mata ki Jai" and thanked the Indian Navy.
The vessel had sent a message on the UKMTO portal indicating boarding by five to six unknown armed personnel Thursday evening.
The Navy said it has increased surveillance in the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Aden to avert such attacks.
