Omar and Azad exchanged barbs as both are currently campaigning in the Chenab Valley region consisting of the Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban districts of the Jammu division.
Azad said that while he had several reasons for contesting the Lok Sabha elections, safeguarding the jobs and land of the people of Jammu and Kashmir was his top priority.
Candidature of Azad was announced on Tuesday by a senior DPAP leader, Taj Mohiuddin in Srinagar.
Azad has already announced his trusted lieutenant GM Saroori as the DPAP candidate in Udhampur against Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh.
Further, Azad expressed concern about the deteriorating situation of the judiciary system and the purported delay in the appointment of judges.
Deputy leader of Congress in the Rajya Sabha Anand Sharma tweeted, "Heartiest congratulations to Ghulam Nabi ji for well deserved recognition of his lifelong enriching contribution to public service and Parliamentary democracy."
Azad, who is for the past few days holding rallies across the Union Territory (UT) alongwith his loyalists, is keeping the Congress leadership guessing by giving statements against their style of functioning.
Earlier on Wednesday, Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal launched an attack on Rahul Gandhi and wondered who in the party is taking decisions. He said that the party leaders' demand of organisational elections has not been met even a year after the letter was written by G-23.
The former leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha also said his party was waiting for the assurances that Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave at an all-party meeting on June 24 this year to be fulfilled.
