Gold prices marked the fourth consecutive day of gains and pushed the yellow metal to a historic high of Rs 99,178 per 10 grams.
At close, the Sensex was up 32.81 points or 0.04% at 78,017.19, and the Nifty was up 10.30 points or 0.04% at 23,668.65.
At close, the Sensex was down 422.59 points or 0.54% at 77,155.79, while the Nifty fell 168.60 points or 0.72% at 23,349.90.
