Under an ongoing drive against adulteration in food items in Punjab, the health teams on Wednesday seized 14 quintals of adulterated food items. Giving details on Wednesday, Punjab health minister Dr Vijay Singla said the health team seized seven quintal 80 kilogram (kg) spurious cheese in SAS Nagar besides another seizure of six quintals 20 kg paneer in Samana town of Patiala district.
Food adulteration is the act of intentionally debasing the quality of food offered for sale either by the admixture or substitution of inferior substances or by the removal of some valuable ingredient.
The FSSAI has issued the draft amendments to the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act, which was passed in 2006 but the regulations were notified only in 2011. Among the key amendments, the FSSAI has proposed to include a new section to crack down on food adulteration.
